Moorefield yet to appeal

News round-upThe GAA's Central Appeals Committee (CAC) have yet to hear from Kildare champions Moorefield regarding their intended appeal against suspensions arising from the Leinster club football quarter-final.

Moorefield are due to play the Leinster semi-final this Sunday against Tyrrellspass of Westmeath, and the Leinster Council are insisting that game will go ahead as scheduled unless they hear otherwise.

On Tuesday, the Leinster Council confirmed the proposals of its Competitions Control Committee had been upheld and that: "Two Moorefield players, James Lonergan and Kevin Murnaghan, be suspended for four weeks; Moorefield concede home venue to their opponents in their remaining games in the championship."

However, Moorefield responded by claiming they would appeal to the CAC, and also to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA), if necessary. It is possible their appeal can be heard before Sunday, but further postponement may yet be necessary if the DRA become involved.

In the meantime Dublin champions St Vincent's, who have booked their place in the final, are still unsure whether the final can be played this side of Christmas.

If the Moorefield-Tyrrellspass semi-final ends in a draw it's certain the final will be postponed until the New Year.

Meanwhile, the cost of preparing all county teams in Wicklow this year totalled 462,700, or well in excess of half of total revenue for the year of 708,300.

County Treasurer Phil Power, who has to step down at Saturday's annual convention under the five-year rule, also reports that the county made a loss of 80,600 on the year's workings, despite the fact that sponsorships showed a substantial increase from 165,000 in 2006 to 197,000 this year, and there was also a significant increase in income from Leinster Council and Croke Park, up from 146,000 last year to 215,300 this year.

Limerick's expenditure on all county teams for the year topped €950,000, almost €300,000 more than the previous year.

One county board official explained that the senior hurlers' long campaign in Munster and the All-Ireland series contributed largely to the extra expenditure.
