Mabbutt's Rolex stolen by youths

Spare a thought for poor Gary Mabbutt, the former Spurs captain

Spare a thought for poor Gary Mabbutt, the former Spurs captain. Mabbutt, hoping a Tottenham fan was the culprit, appealed for the return of his £10,000 Rolex watch which was stolen from him at traffic lights in London. Two youths attacked the player and made off with the watch he had bought with his £10,000 bonus from Spurs' win in the 1991 FA Cup. Hoping the thieves had hearts of gold, he said: "My intention had been to pass it on to my daughter." And these days £10,000 is just a day's wages.
