Old Alexandra goalkeeper Nikki King helped her new team through to the second round of the Coca Cola Leinster Senior Cup on Saturday by making two saves against her former club Pembroke Wanderers in the penalty strokes shoot-out that decided their tie at Milltown.

King and her successor in goal at Pembroke, Mary Goode, were largely responsible for the game ending 0-0 after extra-time, producing a series of fine saves between them. Nerves got the better of most of the stroke takers but Ruth Gibson and Gillian O'Shea converted to give Alexandra a 2-1 win.

Grainne Leahy and Rachel Ormrod shared four of Clontarf's goals in their 5-0 defeat of Muckross while Aisling Keane and Jenny Burke also scored two apiece in Hermes' 6-0 victory over Three Rock at Belfield. Linda Caulfield completed the scoring for Hermes who have been drawn against her former club Trinity in the next round.

The only other all-division one second-round tie pairs Corinthian and Old Alexandra with holders Loreto meeting Alexandra's seconds in one of four first-versus-second division games. In Ulster Pegasus made it three wins out of three in the space of seven days when they beat early league leaders Knock 4-0 in Belfast. Arlene Boyles and Clare McMahon put Pegasus 2-0 up by half-time with Jeanette Gordon and Boyles again doubling the score in the second half.
