Fitzgerald Stadium in Killarney has always been the mecca of GAA activities in Kerry down through the years, but the venue still has heavy debts of some £800,000. Under a new development fund announced this week, however, there are now great hopes to bring it out of the red.

Already there is a £100,000 commitment and over the coming weeks the stadium fund hopes to increase contributions to 100 commitments of £1,000 a year for five years.

The contributions are tax efficient and each of the five-year £1,000 commitments will receive two free stand tickets to Croke Park for Kerry's next five All-Ireland final appearances, the next five Munster finals, and to all matches in the Fitzgerald Stadium for the next five years.

Kerry making the Munster final in one thing, but is it not a bit presumptuous, even by the admirable standards of the Kingdom, to talk about their next five All-Ireland appearances?
