Justin McCarthy named manager

Waterford SH

The Waterford County GAA Board meeting held in Dungarvan last night ratified the appointment of Cork man Justin McCarthy as the new county senior hurling manager.

McCarthy, along with fellow selectors Colm Bonnar and Seamie Hannon, were given a two-year term office.

McCarthy replaces another Corkman, Gerald McCarthy.

Dublin SF

Defender Coman Goggins is the main concern for manager Tom Carr ahead of the meeting with Kerry. Goggins has been suffering with a hamstring injury and, having rested for the last week, he is hopeful of getting a start.

Jim Gavin is back training with the panel after being out of action for much of the last month. The plaster has come off his hand injury that ruled him out of the Leinster final but he too is in the running for a starting place. The team will be announced tomorrow night.

Galway SF

The main casualty for Saturday's Connacht re-match with Roscommon is Jarlath Fallon. The hamstring injury suffered in the fourth-round win over Cork has sidelined the popular forward yet again, most likely clearing the way for the return of Derek Savage.

Seβn O Domhnaill is also ruled out as he is currently on honeymoon but there is some better news for manager John O'Mahony in that Paul Clancy, Tomβs Mannion and Gary Fahy should be fit to play.

Roscommon SF

Although Stephen Lohan is still troubled with a shoulder injury, he is expected to start Saturday's quarter-final with Galway. Lohan has been doing limited training in recent weeks and skipping all the hard contact but manager John Tobin is expected to include his name in the line-up when the team is announced later in the week.

Stephen O'Neill is also a minor worry with a back injury, as is John Whyte (calf) but both players are expected to start.

Meath SF

The suspended Paddy Reynolds is the only definite absentee for manager SeβBoylan going into Sunday's quarter-final at Croke Park. The team is expected to be named after training tonight and, bar any late injuries, few changes from the winning Leinster final line-up

Westmeath SF

Key forward Dessie Dolan is once again expected to play some role in Sunday's re-match with neighbours Meath. The long-term ankle injury still needs attention but Dolan was still able to produce his goods against Mayo and manager Luke Dempsey is set to give him a similar responsibility.

The team will be finalised this evening and even though Derek Heavin is back training after a recent illness, he is unlikely to regain a starting place.

Tyrone SF

Two key players have injury concerns ahead of Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final against Derry at Clones. Centre back and skipper Seβn Teague is struggling with a shoulder injury, while a hamstring problem is threatening the participation of corner forward Eoin Mulligan.

But rumours of a knee injury to Cormac McAnallen were dismissed by team spokesman Pat McCartan, who confirmed that the midfielder took a full part in training at the weekend.

Down SF

Long-serving manager Pete McGrath has been appointed for another year's term with the senior football squad. It will be his 13th consecutive term with the county, including the All-Ireland wins of 1991 and 1994.

The rest of the management will be announced at a later date but current trainer Paul Duffin has opted out. Former minor manager Gerry Dougherty has taken over the under-21 squad.
