It was a quiet weekend on the goal-scoring front for the Irish in Britain, but it was a cheery festive season for Alan Lee who got off the mark for third division Torquay United in their 1-1 draw away to Exeter City on Saturday. The Republic of Ireland under-21 forward has had his loan period from Aston Villa extended for another month. Cardiff's Kevin Nugent, who won youth caps in the 1980s, got his seventh goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Shrewsbury Town - Cardiff are now six points clear of Mansfield at the top of division three.

Not such good news for two of the sizeable Irish contingent at Wolves. Glen Crowe (left), one of Brian Kerr's bronze medal-winning squad from the World Youth Championships last year, is available on a free transfer - Plymouth have shown an interest and he will train with the club next week. Dominic Foley, meanwhile, has had his loan spell at Notts County cut short after failing to impress their manager Sam Allardyce after three games. Allardyce had agreed a fee with Wolves to sign Foley on a permanent basis but has now dropped his interest. And Middlesbrough left winger Alan Moore, who signed a three-year contract with the club in June, has been transfer-listed at his request. Moore recently returned to Boro after a loan spell at Barnsley but is unhappy with the lack of first-team football. Manager Bryan Robson has, however, promised him a future at the club if he "shows more drive and passion".

"At times he is too laid back for his own good," said the man who labelled Moore the "new Ryan Giggs" a few years back, which probably didn't do the lad a lot of favours.
