Impressive US debut for Hoey

Michael Hoey's collegiate debut in the United States proved to be a successful one last week

Michael Hoey's collegiate debut in the United States proved to be a successful one last week. Hoey, from Shandon Park, is in the first year of a scholarship at Clemson State, Richard Coughlan's alma mater, and he played a significant role in assisting the "Tigers" to the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate title at the Overton Golf Club in Birmingham, Alabama.

Hoey was one of three Clemson players to finish in the top six individually as the South Carolina college retained the title. The 12team event featured nine of the top 11 ranked teams in the United States and it was the second tournament win in three outings for the college.

Hoey fired rounds of 71, 68 and 68 for a six-under-par 207 to contribute hugely to Clemson's team total of 832 (best four scores of five counting) which gave them victory.
