They may not have relished their long journeys to Galway and Limerick at the weekend but Randalstown and Pegasus travelled well, making light work of their first-round Sharwood's-sponsored Irish Senior Cup ties in which they scored 16 goals between them and conceded none.

A Heather Thompson hat-trick helped Randalstown on their way to an 8-0 victory over UCG at Dangan but the Ulster champions will be less satisfied with the `reward' they received in yesterday afternoon's second-round draw - another trip away, this time to cup holders Hermes. Pegasus, who beat Catholic Institute by the same scoreline at the University of Limerick, will also be on the road again. They have been drawn away to either Harlequins or Trinity, whose first-round tie in Cork was postponed due to fog.

Ards join their Ulster rivals in the second round but they needed extra time, after the scores were level at 11, to beat Pembroke Wanderers. Former GB international Joanne Menown scored one minute into extra time from a short corner and Pamela Chittick sealed the match for the home team in the second period of extra time.

Ards have been drawn at home to Old Alexandra, who beat Cork Church of Ireland at Whitechurch on Saturday courtesy of a Trish Conway hat-trick, in what could be one of six (if Trinity beat Harlequins) Ulster-Leinster ties in round two. Victorians, the fourth of Saturday's winning Ulster teams, meet Glenanne in the next stage after easing past North Down at the Olympia Leisure Centre with a 4-0 victory. Glenanne beat Galway's Greenfields by the same score at Dangan.

UCC produced one of the best performances of the first round in their 4-1 win over Railway Union at the Mardyke. Goals from Munster trio Joanna Hyland (two), EJ Walsh and Michelle O'Sullivan, the Irish international, give the students a place in the second round where they meet Portadown at the Ulster team's Edenvilla Park.
