Dolan signs Canadian international

St Patrick's Athletic manager Pat Dolan made his third signing of the week yesterday when he recruited Canadian international defender Jeff Clarke from the Vancouver 86ers. The 20-yearold, who had previously been with Antwerp in Belgium, trained with his new club yesterday morning and may well figure in this weekend's game against Shamrock Rovers.

Clarke comes to Inchicore with an impressive reputation. He has captained his country at every under-age level, did well for them at the World Cup in Malaysia where Noel O'Reilly saw him play.

A naturally right sided player who generally plays at full-back, Clarke is nevertheless highly flexible. His two senior caps have both been won out wide in midfield while he is said to be well capable of playing anywhere across the back four.

Shelbourne, meanwhile, have also added to their squad with another 20-year-old, Stuart Connolly, joining the club on a three-month loan from Tranmere Rovers. The Dubliner, who played with Stella Maris before moving to England has been brought in to provide cover in the centre of midfield for the league leaders.

With Dave Campbell and Dean Fitzgerald both struggling at the moment to shake off injuries picked up in Sligo last weekend he may figure in this evening's clash with Bohemians at Tolka Park.

Chris Kamara yesterday returned to management with Stoke City just 16 days after being sacked as boss of Bradford following Chic Bates' decision to step down from the job. It's a dramatic return to the Potteries outfit for Kamara, given the axe at Valley Parade on January 6th, having made 60 league appearances for the club under.

Bates chose to relinquish his role "by mutual agreement," but is expected to return to City's backroom staff.
