Cork's Cahill does the double

Cork City midfielder Ollie Cahill has recorded a rare double by winning both the Opel Soccer Writers' and the National League supporters' player of the month awards for December.

Cahill, had an outstanding month for the southerners, scoring two goals and playing a significant part in several of the other seven the club scored in four league ties. He narrowly beat Mark Rutherford of Shelbourne to the Soccer Writers' award.

Kilkenny City, meanwhile, have signed Trevor Vaughan from Home Farm Everton for an undisclosed fee. The striker was one of several players to fall from favour at the Dublin club after a disappointing start to the season. Vaughan has not played for some weeks and while he will go straight into the squad for this evening's trip to Ballybofey, he may require a bit more time before being considered ready to start a game.

As Vaughan arrives, central defender Tony Hall has left Buckley Park. Manager Alfie Hale said they were parting company on "very good terms".

"He came here and did his best for us, but his wife was back in England and so he was travelling back and forth. In the end, it simply wasn't working out and he asked to be released from his contract, which we agreed to."

Also departing the National League is Finn Harps midfielder Sammy Johnston, who has left the Ballybofey club for Coleraine.
