Jamaican World Cup striker Walter Boyd (right) broke one of the least wanted world records in soccer this week when he was sent off "zero" seconds after coming on as a substitute for his club Swansea in the English third division.

With seven minutes remaining, Boyd was brought on but was immediately red carded by referee Clive Wilkes for a foul on Darlington's Martin Gray before play had re-started. He did not officially take part in the match although he was on the field of play for 57 seconds from the time he went on until he walked off.

"This will go into the record books as zero seconds as the match had not yet re-started," according to Ray Spiller of the Association of Football Statisticians. The previous world record for quick dismissal was held by Bologna's Guisseppe Lorenzo who was sent off after 10 seconds of his team's match against Parma in 1990.
