Gardaí in Dundalk are investigating a serious assault in which a 19-year-old man suffered a number of slash wounds to his body and face early yesterday morning.

The man was found by gardaí who responded to a report of an incident at Ashling Park, Cox's Demense, shortly before 5am. The injured man was removed to Louth County Hospital, Dundalk, where his condition is described as serious but stable.

No arrests have been made so far and investigations are ongoing.

In Dublin, gardaí at Kilmainham are investigating the shooting of a 26-year-old man in Inchicore on Saturday.

The injured man, who received gunshot wounds to his left leg, was found by gardaí on Tyrconnell Road at 11.50pm. He was taken by ambulance to St James's Hospital. His injuries are described as non life threatening.

Gardaí believe the victim was approached by a lone gunman who fired two shots.

The culprit then escaped on foot in the direction of Jamestown Court.

Garda forensic experts examined the scene yesterday and investigations are ongoing.
