Garda forensic investigators spent much of yesterday examining the scene of the crash.

The wreckage of the 1998-registered wine coloured Peugeot car was removed from the scene.

Gardaí appealed for witnesses, particularly those in a car which may have seen the Peugeot shortly before the crash.

They want to interview anybody travelling the road at about 2.10am.

These witnesses “may have met the car in which these two local young men lost their lives, may have seen the accident or may have arrived on the scene shortly after the accident”, Supt Charles Devine of Ashbourne Garda station pointed out. He extended his appeal to anyone who saw the car travelling on the Curragha road shortly before 2am.

Witnesses are asked to make contact with Dunshaughlin Garda station on 01 8258600 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
