Two men are due before D·n Laoghaire District Court this morning after a fracas outside a nightclub. The fracas resulted in two garda∅ being attacked by three men wielding a snooker cue, a baseball bat and a sword.

The garda∅ each received a broken elbow in the attack, which happened shortly before 1 a.m. on Saturday. One garda also received a severe cut to the head. They were recovering in St Vincent's Hospital yesterday, where they were expected to remain for a number of days.

Garda∅ said the altercation ensued after an initial attack on bouncers at Paparazzi nightclub on Marine Road.

The injured garda∅ had been on a plain clothes patrol at the time, according to the Garda press office. Additional garda∅ from D·n Laoghaire station were summoned and a number of items, including the baseball bat, snooker cue and sword, were recovered at the scene.

The two men who were detained shortly afterwards were taken to D·n Laoghaire Garda station, where they were charged under section three of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act yesterday before being remanded in custody.

A third man, who was arrested at his home on Saturday afternoon, was also charged under Section Three. He was remanded on bail to appear at D·n laoghaire District Court on October 26th.

In a separate incident, garda∅ from Ashbourne and Finglas were called to intervene in what was described as a fracas outside a nightclub in Ashbourne, Co Meath, again early on Saturday morning.

The fracas resulted in the main street of Ashbourne being closed for a time as garda∅ removed a number of iron bars from the protagonists.

It is understood those involved had travelled to the disco from Mulhuddart earlier in the evening.
