Threemen die in crashes on State's roads

Three men have died in crashes on the Republic's roads in recent days.

Gardaí at New Ross, Co Wexford, are investigating a fatal crash between a car and a motorbike at Ballyknock, near Wellington Bridge, shortly after 8.15am yesterday.

A motorcyclist, Jude Sneyd (28), of Shelbourne Place, Campile, New Ross, was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken to Wexford General Hospital,

Mr Sneyd was on his way from Campile to Wexford town, where he worked in a bank.

A local woman driving the car involved in the crash was taken to Wexford General Hospital.

In Co Kerry, a 65-year-old driver of a Toyota Carina was killed yesterday when he was involved in a two-car collision near Kenmare. The driver of the other car was injured and taken to hospital.

The crash occurred in the townland of Ardtully, about half way between Kenmare and Kilgarvan, shortly after 8am. It is understood the dead man was travelling towards Kenmare.

Named locally as James Nelson, of Tailor's Cottage, Kilmackillogue, Lauragh, Co Kerry, he was originally from Ohio in the US. He had retired to the area with his wife.

Mr Nelson was pronounced dead at the scene.

The injured man, who is from Kenmare and was travelling towards Kilgarvan in a Toyota Avensis, was taken to Kerry General Hospital. He is not believed to be seriously injured.

The road remained blocked for five hours, and traffic was diverted via Moll's Gap on the main Ring of Kerry road.

A man has also died following a crash at Rathescar Cross, Dunleer, Co Louth, on Tuesday.

Mark King (19), of Ballygowan, Ardee, Co Louth, died in Dublin's Mater hospital on Wednesday from his injuries.
