A ROSCOMMON golf-club restaurant, three restaurants run by the Hare Krishna movement and the luxury Harvey’s Point Hotel in Co Donegal feature in the latest list of food safety breaches published by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI).

The owner of the four-star Harvey’s Point Hotel, Marc Gysling, was fined €500 and ordered to pay costs of almost €1,200 after being convicted of food hygiene breaches in Donegal District Court last month.

The hotel kitchen failed to reach required standards when visited by inspectors on several occasions last year, the court heard.

The hotel said an outside contractor had been hired to set a hygiene standard but this had not been completely effective.

Monsoon Valley restaurant in Bundoran, Co Donegal, was prosecuted for food hygiene breaches. Its owner, Jasbir Kaur, was fined €750, with €750 costs.

The Oven Door in Donegal town, run by Donegal Diamond Enterprises, was also convicted of hygiene breaches. It was fined €1,000, with costs of more than €1,770.

Four closure orders were served on food establishments in April for breaches of food safety legislation, according to the FSAI.

Three were in Roscommon town: the kitchen and restaurant of Roscommon Golf Club, the Mother India restaurant on the Square, and the kitchen of the Central Bar on Market Square.

The other premises closed was the Honeybear ice-cream van operating from the shore front in Buncrana, Co Donegal.

All of the affected premises apart from the Central Bar have reopened after the problems uncovered by inspectors were remedied.

Prohibition orders were served on three branches of Govindas restaurant in Dublin, at Aungier Street, Merrion Row and Middle Abbey Street. The orders related to the sale of raw and untreated milk supplied without appropriate documentation on the premises.

The restaurants are run by the Hare Krishna movement through the International Society for Krishna Consciousness Ireland.
