Staff were tied up during an attempted armed robbery at a gold and silver dealer's shop on Bolton Street in Dublin city centre this morning.

Two men entered The Bullion Room shop at 9.30am this morning. They tied up a man and a woman in the back office.

The alarm was activated and gardaí arrived at the scene. The two suspects in their 30s were arrested and are being held at Bridewell Garda station.

Gardaí recovered what is believed to be a firearm during the arrests.

The staff were not injured and nothing was stolen from the shop.

A hole was cut in the shutters of the shop this morning and the scene was taped off by gardaí for a technical examination.

The suspected firearm is being sent for ballistic inspection.

According to the shop's website, it is part of a Birmingham jewellery chain which buys and refines scrap metal and sells precious metal investment products.
