The coastguard is today searching for an abandoned fishing trawler amid fears it could drift ashore and cause an obstruction to shipping lanes and pose a pollution threat.

They are looking for the English-registered
Pembroke
, whose crew was airlifted to safety off the Cork coast earlier this week after the boat started taking in water.
A Valentia Coast Guard spokesman said they were searching for the vessel in case it had remained afloat.
Last month an unmanned fishing boat arrived at Castletownbere, Co Cork. The British-registered Spanish boat Zorro Zaurre drifted 140 miles to the south-west Irish coast before foundering on rocks yards from where its sister ship, Nuestra Se?ora de Gardotza, sank 10 years ago at Roancarrig lighthouse in Bantry Bay.
The 13 crew on board of the Zorro Zaurre were airlifted from the vessel 140 miles south of Mizen Head on November 30th.
The Coast Guard spokesman told ireland.com in light of the Zorro Zaurre experience the coastguard intended to confirm whether or not the Pembroke sank.
