Route options for Luas F line go on display

A public display of the route options for the Luas line F - from Lucan to Dublin city centre - is touring west Dublin.

The display, which is part of the public consultation process, features two main route options for the line with five sub-options, giving a range of alternatives for the ultimate route.

Luas Line F is to be developed by 2013 and is expected to add more than 25 million passenger journeys a year to the Luas network, according to the Government's strategy Transport 21.

The two main options are essentially a northerly or southerly route from Lucan village or Newcastle Road respectively to the city centre. The city centre terminus is envisaged as being at either St Stephen's Green or College Green.

The new Luas line will provide possible interchanges with the Kildare railway line, the proposed Metro West, the Luas Red and Green lines, Metro North, as well as the proposed rail interconnector.

The sub-options include links between Ballyowen Park and Esker Meadow in Lucan; Liffey Valley and Collinstown Park; Wheatfield and Cherry Orchard/ Blackditch; James's Hospital and Fatima Mansions; and Christchurch and the Coombe.

The plan will be on display today at Ballyfermot Civic Centre from 11am until 8pm. Tomorrow the plans go on display in the Oblates Hall, Inchicore, Dublin, at similar times.
