Motorists have been warned to leave plenty of time for journeys through the Red Cow interchange this morning, despite relatively light traffic yesterday, the first day of new diversions in the area.

According to AA Roadwatch, motorists stayed away from the Red Cow interchange yesterday, avoiding predicted congestion associated with the closure of the south bound off-ramp.

AA Roadwatch announcer Caitríona Mitchell said predicted delays did not materialise in the morning, while the evening traffic was the lightest it had been "in years". However the AA has warned that today is usually the busiest day of the week and has advised motorists using the Red Cow interchange to allow additional time for their journeys.

The closure of the southbound exit from the M50 at the Red Cow will affect traffic heading west to the N7 road towards Kildare. This traffic will be diverted to the Ballymount interchange from where it will head back along the northbound carriageway to the N7 access ramp.
