Racing, tango and theatre on weekend line-up

Whether you enjoy sport, art, theatre or music there is something on this weekend to suit all tastes, whatever the weather.

Large crowds are expected in Co Meath for the Adelaide International Kells Road Races,  where entrants include Cameron Donald, William Dunlop, Michael Dunlop and Derek Sheils.

Those less familiar with the biker scene may recognise comedian PJ Gallagher as he makes his road racing debut at the Kells event.  Practice stages will take place tomorrow morning and Sunday is race day. A Garda traffic management plan is in place for the event.

As is appropriate at this time of year, emotions run high for GAA fans countrywide as their county teams attempt to play their way through to the business end of the championship calendar.

Ulster and Connacht should see their respective provincial finals decided on Sunday with perennial championship favourites Kerry and Dublin having already made their way through to the next round.

Roscommon take on Mayo at Dr Hyde Park in the Connacht final at 2pm while throw in at the Ulster final comes two hours later at Clones where Donegal take on Derry.

Other GAA fixtures include tasty Saturday evening qualifiers between Meath  and Kildare at Páirc Tailteann, Navan and Limerick and Waterford at Gaelic Grounds, Limerick.

Antrim take on Down at Casement Park, Belfast, while Mick O'Dwyer's Wicklow take on Armagh in their replay in Aughrim. All qualifiers start at 7pm and patrons are advised to plan ahead as increased traffic is expected before and after each event.

For those travelling by train between Cork and Dublin this weekend check if you can access free Wi-Fi onboard. Irish Rail plans to install the service on all 67 carriages on the route by September.

Anyone travelling in the Skibbereen-Baltimore area tomorrow should keep an eye out for those hardy athletes taking part in the Lough Hyne Challenge. The triathlon includes a 1,500m swim, a 45km bike ride and 10km run.

There will be no road closures in place for either the cycle or run but gardaí will be on point duty and motorists are advised to take extra care.

Traffic restrictions will be in place at Dublin's Phoenix Park tomorrow morning where the Irish Runner Five Mile Challenge starts at 11am. Registration has closed for the event but enthusiasts and supporters are more than welcome to cheer on the participants.

The Galway Arts Festival continues to enthrall with its diverse range of arts and cultural events. Its busy schedule includes highlights such as tomorrow’s lunchtime performance by one of the country's foremost accordion players accompanied by harpist Floriane Blancke at Kelly's Bar on Bridge Street.

Award-winning Scottish video artist and choreographer Billy Cowie's five minute dance solo installation Tango de Soledad (Tango of Solitude) is a free event danced by Amy Hollingsworth. Tango de Soledad can be seen at the Absolut Festival Gallery between 11am and 6pm tomorrow and Sunday.

The ever-popular Kildare band Bell X1 play the festival big tomorrow evening while Bray's Fionn Regan takes to the stage on Sunday night at the Roisin Dubh.
