An Post has said its internal investigation into whether former TD Mr Liam Lawlor was able to have a postal designation of a housing development changed from Clondalkin to Lucan will take another two to three weeks to complete.

The company said while the investigation would be "thorough" it would "say very little" to the media about the nature of its investigation, and the status of any personnel being interviewed.

The investigation follows claims from a leading builder to the Mahon Tribunal that he paid Mr Lawlor more than £40,000 to get the postal address of a housing estate changed from Clondalkin to Lucan.

Mr Séamus Ross, of Menolly Homes, said he asked Mr Lawlor about the situation , and Mr Lawlor said he would "look into it". He estimated the change allegedly arranged by Mr Lawlor was worth £5,000 a house to him, or a total of over £2.5 million.
