Clara Lara Funpark, near Laragh, Co Wicklow, has remained one of the most popular attractions in the Republic for children and their families since it opened almost 20 years ago. It is open from May to August.

However, its founder, Peter Morphew, last night began a six-month prison sentence for possession of child pornography. He was committed to Mountjoy Prison, from where he is expected to be transferred to Arbour Hill as early as today.

Morphew has not been a director of Clara Lara Ltd since May 12th this year, according to records at the Companies Office. Clara Lara Ltd is now registered to an address at Clark House Business Centre, Naas, Co Kildare, care of John Nolan & Associates.

Mr John Nolan (44), Carraig Oscair, Naas, is listed as a company director. He did not return calls from The Irish Times yesterday. The other registered director, Ms Jean Byrne (32), Glasnarged, Rathdrum, Co Wicklow, could not be contacted for comment.

Irish Game Fisheries Ltd, which traded as Clara Lara Funpark, had no insurance in 1995 when a 14-year-old girl, Julie Anne Cauley, from Loughlinstown, Co Dublin, was involved in a boating accident. She was awarded £10,000 in compensation, but two years ago the Circuit Civil Court heard she may never get the money because the firm was not insured.
