MOTHERS EVERYWHERE will be cherished tomorrow on Mother's Day, but two out of every three women with children of schoolgoing age have no financial protection against unexpected death, according to new research.

Bank of Ireland Life, which carried out the research, claims women are "frighteningly" under-insured. It blames a mistaken belief that protection is only needed by wage-earners.

"A larger proportion of men than women take out life assurance and critical illness cover," said the bank's Brian Grimes.
