Gardaí are trying to establish a motive for a shooting in which a man sustained a leg wounds when shot at by an attacker at his Dublin home last night.

The victim works in a bank and is not known to gardaí. However, nothing has emerged in the early stages of the investigation to link last night’s shooting to his work life.

Gardaí are trying to determine if the injured man had been threatened by anyone recently or if the shooting was a case of mistaken identity.

The 32-year-old victim was at home with his partner and son at Corbally Green, Tallaght, west Dublin, when he went to answer to a caller at the front door at around 10.30pm.

When he opened the door a gunman standing at the bottom of the driveway opened fire at him; hitting him in the legs and firing a number of shots at the front of the property.

The gunman, who gardaí believe concealed his identity by wearing a scarf over his face, then jumped into a waiting car and was driven away at speed by an accomplice.

The wounded man was hit in the legs. He was taken to Tallaght hospital where he is still being treated for his injuries, which are not life threatening.

Gardaí found a burnt out Volvo car not far from the crime scene and believe it was used by the attackers.

The injured man’s house was today undergoing a forensic examination by members of the Garda Technical Bureau. A number of bullet casings were found at the scene, believed to be from a 9mm handgun.

His family has reportedly moved out of the property. The injured man’s brother and 10-year-old son returned to the house to pack belongings earlier today.
