Man held in property fraud inquiry

A BUSINESSMAN was arrested yesterday by gardaí investigating complaints of fraud by a number of property investors.

A BUSINESSMAN was arrested yesterday by gardaí investigating complaints of fraud by a number of property investors.

The man, in his 40s, was taken to Irishtown Garda station in the south inner city and was still being questioned there last night.

He was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, which allows for the detention of a suspect for 24 hours without charge.

His period of detention was expected to be suspended late last night to afford him time to sleep in a cell overnight. Questioning was expected to be resumed this morning. The arrest was carried out by members of the Garda Bureau of Fraud Investigation.

A property in Monkstown was also searched as part of the same operation, and items, including what are believed to be financial records, were taken away for examination by gardaí.
