A Co Louth man has been extradited to Spain, where he is wanted for the alleged murder of his wife who died after falling from a hotel balcony on the Costa del Sol more than five years ago.
The extradition of Michael Dermot McArdle (36), Brookfield, Heynestown, Dundalk, was ordered last week by the Supreme Court, upholding a High Court order for his extradition on May 27th last.
Gardaí yesterday confirmed that Mr McArdle left the country on Thursday night accompanied by two Spanish police officers.
Mr McArdle is wanted for the alleged murder of his wife, Kelly Anne (28), who died following a fall from a hotel balcony in Marbella on February 12th, 2000.
Mr McArdle had been staying with his wife and two children at the five-star Melia Don Pepe hotel in Marbella on the Costa del Sol. Ms McArdle died after falling 40 feet from a balcony.
