Labour takes two seats in Dublin NE

Labour won two seats in the three-seat Dublin North East constituency.

The party has increased its share of the vote from 15 per cent in 2007 to 35 per cent.

Fine Gael's Terence Flanagan was elected on the first count. Labour TD Tommy Broughan was elected on the second count after securing 24 per cent of the first preferences.

Labour's Seán Kenny defeated Sinn Féin's Cllr Larry O'Toole, in the race for the final seat.

The Fianna Fáil vote in the constituency, which is Michael Wood's old seat, has collapsed from nearly 40 per cent to just 11.48 per cent for the single candidate Averil Power.

In Dublin South East, Green Party leader and former minister for the environment John Gormley was eliminated after the fifth count.

Outgoing Fine Gael TD Lucinda Creighton topped the poll and was elected on the sixth count.

Ruairí Quinn of Labour and Eoghan Murphy of Fine Gael took the second and third seats, while Labour's Kevin Humphries beat Fianna Fáil's Chris Andrews in the battle for the fourth seat.
