Kimbra, Crawdaddy Stage

Kimbra, Crawdaddy Stage:

Kimbra, Crawdaddy Stage:

It was New Zealander Kimbra's first time playing Ireland and she dressed up for the occasion, all white tutus and red lipstick to an appreciative crowd keen on her slightly off kilter pop stylings.

Alas Kimbra's sheen is slightly lost in a rather thuddy tent sound. She means it though, a great performer leapfrogging over notes with a powerful vocal style that radio listeners probably recognize from Gotye's global smash Somebody That I Used To Know.

Warrior, a tune written with Mark Foster (Foster The People) and A-Trak is brilliant and in fairness a few songs later despite the unfamiliarity the crowd might possess in the face of this newbie's material, she works it, and pumps people up enough to send them off nodding in approval.

This set tested the waters. And next time, she'll probably be ready to dive right in.

Verdict: ***
