Killarney nurses to stage work stoppage

Nurses employed in Killarney Community Hospital are to hold a one-hour work stoppage from 3-4 pm today

The stoppage is part of their campaign against the imposition of changes in management structures, which would see the abolition of the director of nursing post.

INO Industrial Relations Officer Michael Dineen said the dispute was indicative of a lack of accountability within the HSE.

Nurses held a one hour-work stoppage earlier this month over concerns that the proposed changes would lead to  a downgrading in the status of the Hospital.

“The imposition of the changes within Killarney Community Hospital are the thin end of the wedge as we have serious concerns in regard to all nursing posts that may fall vacant within care of the elderly services in future that there does not appear to be a commitment on the part of management to fill these vacancies with nurses,” Mr Dineen said.
