A concert planned for Dublin's Dalymount Park later this month has been moved to the Point Theatre because of concerns about crowd safety at the football ground.

The "Jam in the Park", due to be headlined by Destiny's Child, was scheduled to take place at the Phibsboro stadium on June 16th.

But following a safety inspection, Dublin Corporation ruled that Dalymount's crowd control barriers did not satisfy the code of practice for safety at sports grounds.

The corporation cited "severe corrosion" on several terrace barriers, and said that the terraces should not be used to accommodate standing spectators, either at concerts or football matches, pending remedial work.

The concert will now take place on the same date at the Point.

The joint promoters, Dublin's POD nightclub and the Mean Fiddler chain, expressed disappointment yesterday that the concert would not now be an open-air show, but said time constraints meant the problem could not be rectified in time. A spokesman said the line-up remained unchanged. Tickets already sold will be valid for the Point, but the spokesman indicated it was unlikely that refunds would be entertained.

The concert would have been the first to be held at Dalymount since 1994. Bohemians Football Club, which plays its home games at the venue, recently completed the National League and FAI Cup double. The club has told Dublin Corporation that some form of seating arrangement will be used for forthcoming matches.

Tickets are still on sale for the Point concert, priced £37.50 (standing) and £42.50 (seated). The line-up also includes Eve, Damage, Oxide Neutrino and Irish girl-group Bellefire.
