The organiser of this year's Citywest Irish Masters snooker tournament does not forsee any problems with the event going ahead - despite concerns over the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.

Tournament director Kevin Norton says the tournament will go ahead as planned. "I don’t see any reason why not. It’s an indoor event," he said.

The Department of Agriculture yesterday issued "an immediate call to all sporting bodies to postpone events, or where this is not possible, to ensure that protective measures are in place".

The Citywest Irish Masters is due to be held at the Citywest Leisure Complex between March 27th and April 1st. It has been sponsored by the Department of Health to the tune of £600,000. The venue can comfortably hold up to 1,200 spectators.
