Inspectors found goats' heads in Dublin restaurant

A RESTAURANT on Parnell Street in Dublin where a number of goats’ heads were found stored in sacks is among five food businesses against which orders were issued last month.

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) issued a prohibition order against Akanchawa’s Honey Pot restaurant after health inspectors discovered four sacks of heads, legs and other goat parts kept in unsuitable conditions.

The restaurant’s owner, Austin Daniels, told The Irish Times the goat meat, which was used in pepper soup, a Nigerian speciality, was removed from the premises and destroyed under the supervision of health officials. The kitchen no longer serves goat, he added. “It was a once-off issue,” he said.

The FSAI issued closure orders against the Café Leon bistro on Exchequer Street; Jade Garden Chinese takeaway in Terenure; Polski Sklep supermarket on North Earl Street; and the 3 in 1 coffee house, fast food and Indian takeaway on American Street, Belmullet, Co Mayo.

A spokesman for Café Leon said the restaurant was closed for less than a day while a broken drain was being fixed. The FSAI said Polski Sklep was allowed to reopen two days after being ordered to close, while the two other businesses remain shut.
