If you do one things this week.... keep safe over the festive season

For many, this time of year is about being around friends and family, and having fun. So it’s worth keeping a few simple things in mind to help ensure the fun doesn’t get cut short by an emergency trip to the hospital.

Children’s University Hospital, Temple Street, has a few tips: supervise young children if they are playing with toys that have small parts, ensure that kids on scooters, rollerblades and bikes are wearing properly fitted safety equipment and keep candles, hot drinks and hot kitchen appliances out of reach of children.

The Asthma Society of Ireland also cautions that cold air, smoke fires, candles and fireworks can be potential triggers for asthma, and recommends that people with the condition carry reliever inhalers and take their asthma medication as prescribed by their doctor or health care professional. Have a fun and safe festive season.
