The weekend saw Dublin gain a new first lady - a lass from Co Donegal. Ms Michele McConalogue (33) from Carndonagh married the capital's Lord Mayor, Mr Royston Brady (31), at a ceremony attended by among others the Taoiseach, Mr Ahern.
Cardinal Desmond Connell presided at the ceremony in the Pro-Cathedral on Saturday afternoon, while Arbour Hill jail chaplain, Father Fergal McDonagh, was chief celebrant.
Before the wedding, Mr Ahern posed for photographs with the groom's mother, Ms Doreen Brady.
He said he hoped "everything goes well" for the couple.
The Lord Mayor arrived at about 1.20 p.m. wearing a dark grey and black brocade jacket over black trousers.
Ms McConalogue arrived at about 1.30 p.m. in a 200-year-old ornate State carriage accompanied by her father, Michael.
She wore a dress by Dublin designer Jen Kelly - white silk, bias-cut in chiffon and hand-beaded with crystals. She also wore a chiffon and ostrich feather wrap as well as a full length cathedral veil.
She was assisted by four bridesmaids dressed in deep purple dresses.
Almost an hour and a half later, the couple emerged to cheering crowds, some of whom had wandered unknowingly into the cordoned-off Marlborough Street from the first day of the winter sales at nearby department stores.
A pipe-band and two boy soloists from the Pro-Cathedral's Palestrina Choir provided music for the wedding.
The reception was held in the Mansion House. Among other guests was the groom's brother, Senator Cyprian Brady, manager of Mr Ahern's constituency office in Drumcondra.
The Taoiseach's former partner, Ms Celia Larkin, also attended.
