Gardaí were last night questioning a man in connection with the discovery on Thursday of cocaine and cannabis with an estimated street value of €200,000.

Officers from the Tallaght drug unit arrested the man, who is in his 20s, after they stopped a vehicle on the M50 just before 4pm. Some 10kg of cannabis was discovered in the vehicle along with half a kilo of cocaine.

The man was arrested and taken to Tallaght Garda station, where he was still being questioned last night under the provisions of the Drug Trafficking Act.

Meanwhile, a man in his early 20s, who was being questioned by gardaí in Cavan over a drugs find yesterday, was released from custody last night.

Gardaí found a small quantity of cannabis and heroin during a search of a house and vehicle at Shercock, Co Cavan. The man was taken to Carrickmacross Garda station for questioning but was released without charge. Gardaí said a file was being prepared for the DPP.

The two seizures brings to almost €2 million the value of drugs seized in the State since Tuesday.
