Gardai are today investigating a fire that destroyed a south Dublin pub early this morning.

Five units of Dublin Fire Brigade were called to the Canal Bar pub, off Bond Street, at 1.30 a.m. No one was injured in fire as it is believed the building was empty at the time.

A Garda spokesman said the pub, at the rear of the Guinness complex, was destroyed.

Grand Canal Place was closed for a time this morning as the scene was preserved for a detailed examination.
