Gardaí are investigating complaints that the British army crossed the border from Co Fermanagh into Co Donegal yesterday evening.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs last night said it had been made aware of an alleged incursion into by a British army patrol based at Belleek, Co Fermanagh.

She said the matter would be raised through the British-Irish Secretariat in Belfast. Local residents said an eight-man patrol had crossed into Cloghore shortly after 8 p.m.

SDLP Assembly Member, Mr Tommy Gallagher, called for the removal of the British Parachute Regiment from Fermanagh. Mr Gallagher said it was the latest in a long list of provocative incidents.
