Four food safety notices served in April

A popular late-night Dublin takeaway was among four food outlets which were closed for breaches of food safety laws in April.

The Food Safety Authority (FSAI) said today it served a closure order on the New Maple Leaf takeaway, 13 Wexford Street, Dublin 2 last month.

A closure order is served where it is deemed that there is or there is likely to be a grave and immediate danger to public health at or in the premises.

Environmental Health Officers also served closure orders on Yobak Ventures (wholesale), Unit 52, Coolmine Industrial Estate, Clonsilla, Dublin 15, Tokzy Super Store, 85 Parnell Street, Ennis, Co Clare and on Ms Trudi Ko, Logatemple, Kiltimagh Rd, Claremorris, Co Mayo

Dr John O'Brien, chief executive, FSAI, expressed his disappointment at the number of orders served during April and said there was no room for complacency in running any food business.

"Enforcement orders tarnish the food industry as a whole and can damage consumer confidence. The onus is on each individual food business to take responsibility and commit to ensuring high food safety standards and that consumer confidence is maintained," said O'Brien.

Closure and improvement orders will remain listed on the FSA website, www.fsai.ie, for three months, while prohibition orders are listed for one month.
