Food authority closes 3 premises in September

Three food businesses were closed by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland during September bringing to 51 the number of enforcement orders served throughout the State this year.

Mr Peter Whelan, director of service contracts with the FSAI, said "Irish food businesses need to comply with the law, as regulators can not protect their operations for them. The FSAI encourages best practice all along the food chain and wishes to have no names on the website listing."

Three orders were served by environmental health officers (EHOs) in the Dublin area. The Jewel in the Crown on South Fitzwilliam Street, Dublin 2, was served with two closure orders while an improvement order was served on the La Strada Restaurant, Dun Laoghaire, Co. Dublin.

In the South Eastern Health Board area a closure order was served on Wiseguys Pizza Pie Factory Limited, North Main Street, Wexford, while a closure order was also been served on the Pettigo Inn, Pettigo, Co Donegal.

Closure orders are served when it inspectors decide there is, or is likely to be, a grave and immediate danger to public health. Serving of an improvement orders is on the basis that the condition of the premises may now, or in the future, pose a risk to public health.
