Independent wind-generated power supplier, eirtricity, today announced contracts in excess of £20m (euro 25.65m) have been signed with small and medium sized businesses.

Dr Eddie O'Connor, Managing Director of eirtricity, said: "We have exceeded our expectations in our first year of trading and with recent wind farms opened in Donegal and a further two wind farms under construction in Counties Kerry and Cavan we will have ample capacity to continue to expand our customer base in the coming year."

He said the company was confident 2001 would be another high growth year for eirtricity with many teething problems being resolved. The Commission for Electricity Regulation was now up and running which, he said, was vitally important in an industry where a fair regulatory framework was essential.

Eirtricity claim a client base in excess of 5,000 small and medium sized business customers.
