Judging by the ever-increasing number of outlets selling candles of all shapes and sizes, candles seem to have become today's indispensable home accessory and a pleasing gift to give or receive. But if you'd like to go one better and make your own candles for gift-giving this Christmas, you can learn how at Cottage Garden Herbs, Tullow, Co Carlow, on November 30th.

The cost is £60 and participants will be shown how to use a range of moulds and colour to create their own candle designs. If Christmas decoration is more your forte, you might pick up a tip or two on December 1st at the "wreaths, garlands and swags" day at the same venue.

The day includes giving the traditional Christmas tree a makeover and creating centre pieces for the dining table. The cost is also £60 and includes a light lunch. To book either event contact Michelle Power on (0503) 56312.
