A DOCTOR who attempted to resuscitate a patient while he was sitting in a chair has given an undertaking to the Medical Council never to practise in Ireland again.

Dr George Dimitrov Georgiev (56), from South Africa, made the undertaking under section 67 of the Medical Practitioners Act 2007 on condition six allegations of professional misconduct and/or poor professional performance were dropped.

Dr Georgiev had already given such an undertaking in a separate case.

The doctor, formerly an out-of-hours GP with Contractors Medical Bureau in Dublin, had faced the six allegations at a fitness-to-practise inquiry last week.

The allegations included that Dr Georgiev had failed to call an ambulance in a timely manner for a patient, John Dunne; that he had failed to provide any or adequate treatment; that he had not provided Mr Dunne’s family with advice after his death; and that he had been rude and abrupt in his manner.

Mr Dunne, of Bluebell Road, Dublin 12, died of heart failure in his home shortly after 5am on July 2nd, 2009.

Following her husband’s death, Elizabeth Dunne and daughter Frances Magee complained to the Medical Council.

Dr Georgiev also gave an undertaking not to repeat the conduct complained of and to act with greater sensitivity and improve his communication in similar circumstances.

He also consented to being formally censured by the Medical Council.
