DART drivers are expected to begin operating new summer rosters today after Iarnród Éireann agreed to address their claim for €5,000 each in compensation.

The drivers want €2,500 each in compensation for disruption after a fire at the Fairview depot two years and for ongoing disruption caused by work on the Dublin Port Tunnel. A formula to resolve the fire claim is to be put to drivers. The Labour Relations Commission will deliberate on the Port Tunnel claim.

Iarnród Éireann had tried to introduce the summer timetable last Tuesday but drivers continued to operate the existing schedule.

Mr Liam Tobin, general secretary of the National Bus and Railworkers Union, last night said he was optimistic the issues at Fairview could be resolved.
