A dark, dank, drizzly day is not expected to dampen the enthusiasm of thousands of fans who will be attending series of high-profile sporting events this weekend.
Dublin face Mayo at Parnell Park in Dublin tomorrow, with a crowd of up to 9,000 expected at the ground. Throw-in is at 7.45pm.
Tyrone players return to Healy Park in Omagh, scene of the infamous fracas with Dublin which, amazingly led to all but one player having their bans overturned. They will face Kerry at a 2pm kickoff tomorrow.
For hurling fans there are two appetising games this weekend. On Sunday, Cork travel to face Wexford at Wexford Park at 3pm. Thirty minutes later Tipperary face Galway at Semple Stadium. Some traffic congestion is anticipated around all the grounds before and after throw-in.
Heavy rain across the country today is making road surfaces very greasy, according to AA Roadwatch.
It also notes that there are roadworks on the N30 between Clonroche and Enniscorthy at Moneytucker until 6pm every evening until Saturday, leading to diversions.
Drivers in Meath can now use a section of the Ashbourne Bypass, and southbound traffic should take the 2nd exit off the Rath roundabout. Travelling north, drivers should take the first left at Nine Mile Stone roundabout.
Those on the N7 Mountrath and Castletown Road should be aware that there are roadworks between 8.30am to 6pm daily, with a stop-go system in place. Motorists are being warned to expect delays.
According to Met Éireann, heavy rain showers will continue today before clearing overnight and into the morning. Tomorrow night will be mild and breezy.
Sunday will be wet but temperatures will be between four and eight degrees overnight and milder during the day.
