The High Court has granted an application by a businessman for leave to mount a legal challenge to quash findings published in the Ansbacher report relating to him.

Mr John Byrne (83) of Ballsbridge, Dublin, had argued some of the findings contained in a section of the inspector’s report were not justified by the evidence.

In delivering his ruling this morning, Mr Justice McKechnie said that in granting leave he was "expressing no view, tentative or otherwise, on the merits or otherwise of the application".

The court was told yesterday Mr Byrne intends to take proceedings against three court-appointed inspectors who interviewed him during their investigation into the affairs of Ansbacher (Cayman) Ltd.
