Angry Cork hurling fans have attacked the GAA's decision to charge €10 more for their team's All-Ireland quarter-final replay with Waterford than they did for the original game.
Dozens of Cork supporters contacted Government departments and media outlets yesterday to call for a Competition Authority investigation in the GAA's pricing practices.
Tickets for last Sunday's quarter-final matches between Cork and Waterford, and Clare and Limerick, cost €35. However, tickets for the Cork-Waterford replay and the semi-final between Kilkenny and Wexford next Sunday have gone on sale for €45. The Cork fans claim the GAA is abusing its dominant position in the market.
"Not happy with insisting that both sets of supporters have to travel once again to Dublin for a fixture that could easily have been scheduled in Thurles, the GAA insist that the Cork and Waterford supporters pay a premium of €10 over the €35 they had paid for the exact same fixture a week earlier in order to attend this replay - same teams, same fixture time, same venue, but €10 extra," an e-mail issued by the ad hoc campaign stated.
Efforts to contact a GAA spokesman were unsuccessful.
