Principal conductor of the RTÉ Concert Orchestra Laurent Wagner will not seek to renew his contract in October 2006, RTÉ has said.
But the Frenchman will "continue to work with the orchestra as guest conductor as the RTÉCO expands its range of entertainment programming".
Wagner's decision follows RTÉ's abandonment of the classical concerts it had been presenting at The Helix since it opened on the DCU campus in 2002.
The original plan for the RTÉCO to be the new hall's orchestra in residence foundered over disagreements between The Helix and RTÉ.

And in spite of its much-praised acoustics, the new venue has struggled to attract audiences for many of its classical performances.
