Peter Clohessy may miss Munster’s European Cup semi-final with Castres in Beziers later this month after sustaining burn injuries in an accident at his Limerick home.

Clohessy, who retired from international rugby after Ireland’s defeat in Paris at the weekend, is believed to have been burning rubbish in his garden last night when an explosion left him with severe burns.

He is to see a plastic surgeon in Galway today to assess the damage to his face and hands.

In coaching terms, Italian coach Brad Johnstone has been touted as Declan Kidney’s successor as Munster boss.

Johnstone is believed to be on his way out of the Italian job after two years at the helm and is said to have been targeted by Munster officials keen to secure a replacement for Kidney.

Kidney and forwards coach Niall O’Donovan will end their association with the province when Munster’s involvement in the European Cup comes to a conclusion.
