Christmas tree collection points open

TRADITIONALLY CHRISTMAS decorations remain in place until the Feast of the Epiphany on January 6th, but for those wanting to get their house back in order, many local authorities are now recycling Christmas trees.

Dublin City Council opens its Christmas tree collection points today. Trees can be deposited until January 22nd at a range of centres across the city.

They are: Windmill Road bring centre, Crumlin; the car park on Clontarf Road beside the former traffic school; Gulistan Terrace bring centre, Rathmines; Albert College car park, Glasnevin; Oscar Traynor Road bring centre, Coolock; Mellowes Parks depot, Finglas (Monday-Friday 8am-4pm and Saturday-Sunday 10am-4pm);

Pigeon House Road recycling centre, Ringsend; Walkinstown Green; Bunting Park; Shamrock Terrace recycling centre, North Strand; Poddle Park, Kimmage; Milltown car park, Milltown Road; Croke Park, Cusack stand (Monday-Friday 8am-8pm, Saturday-Sunday 10am-4pm, from January 3rd-19th only) and the car park at Martello Tower, Strand Road, Sandymount.

Cork City Council will accept trees from tomorrow until January 31st at the civic amenity recycling centre, Kinsale Road; parks depot, Togher; Ballinlough Park; Skehard Road; the green at the junction of Ringmahon Road and Castle Road; Glen amenity park; the green at junction of Murmont Road and Iona Road, Montenotte;

The green adjacent to Tinkers Cross traffic lights; the green adjacent to Sam Allen sports complex, Knockfree Avenue, Gurranebraher; the green at new reservoir on Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeny; parks depot, Fairhill; Kennedy Park, Victoria Road and Lee Fields at bottle bank site, Carrigrohane Road.

Galway County Council will accept trees during normal working hours from January 7th until the 14th at the waste water treatment plant, Prospect, in Athenry; at Canal Drive in Ballinasloe; and also at Ball Alley, Beach Road, Clifden;

Facilities are also provided at the water works, An Cheathrú Rua; the council yard, Gort; the pound in the Fairgreen, Loughrea; Black Quarry, Mountbellew; the council chip depot, Lisconly, Milltown; the car park at Oughterard; the council site at Mountain Road, Moycullen; the council yard, Portumna; the recycling centre, Athenry Road, Tuam; the council yard beside Mart, Headford, and the waste water pumping station, Coast Road, Oranmore.

Limerick City Council has designated three collection points, which will accept trees.

On January 7th they can be deposited at Watch House Cross; on January 14th at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Childers Road, and on January 21st at Musgrave’s car park, Park Road in the city.

In Waterford city, trees can be brought to the Kilbarry civic amenity site during normal operating hours from today.

Most other local authorities will have details of tree disposal arrangements from today, with details of local arrangements on the councils’ websites.
